Patriot Campers

Background

Patriot Campers was established in 2013 by Justin Montesalvo, conceived during a camping trip to Queensland’s Stradbroke Island when a trailer got bogged on the beach. That night, Justin sketched designs in the sand around a campfire, and nine months later had built a prototype. The X1 was born, and Patriot Campers was launched.

Prior to founding Patriot Campers, Montesalvo served as Director at Express Metal Products, where he developed expertise in engineering, project management, and supply chain optimisation. Production began in a rented factory next door to Express Metal. In 2014, assembly was relocated to a 700m2 plant in Molendinar on the Gold Coast. The company has since expanded to facilities spanning over 14,000 square metres and exports globally with distributors in the US and Mongolia.

Patriot is known as much for its media presence as its products. “Patriot Games” started as an R&D trip and evolved into a major content series, putting camper trailers to the ultimate test in extreme conditions while building a massive following. The YouTube content, while professionally produced, effectively serves as extended infomercials across multiple platforms.

Ownership & Structure

Patriot Campers is privately owned by Justin Montesalvo (Managing Director). The company is based in Molendinar on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Patriot appeared in the Gold Coast Top Companies 2018 list. The company is ISO 9001 certified, meaning its quality management systems meet international accreditation standards.

Manufacturing

All Patriot Camper products are manufactured in Australia at their 14,000+ square metre facility on the Gold Coast. The ISO 9001 certification covers their entire manufacturing process. Key product lines include the X1 (the original camper trailer), X2 (tourer), and X3 (the larger, more feature-rich camper). The company also produces “Supertourers” — larger caravan-style products. Patriot builds for the premium end of the market with a focus on off-road durability and integrated design.

Market Position

Patriot sits at the premium end of the camper trailer and toy hauler market. The Patriot Games media content provides enormous brand awareness that most competitors cannot match.
