Lakestar Caravans

Background

Lakestar Caravans was created by two engineers who saw an opportunity to combine luxury with sustainability, producing lightweight caravans packed with modern technology. The company positions itself as Australia’s custom-made caravan specialist, building each van to individual buyer specifications rather than offering a fixed production-line model range.

The company is relatively new to the market, having been registered with an ABN from around 2021-2022. Despite its youth, Lakestar has attracted attention for its engineering-led approach to caravan design, with a focus on reducing weight while maintaining structural integrity and comfort.

Ownership & Structure

Lakestar Caravans is privately owned by its two founding engineers. The company is based in Melbourne, Victoria. There are no known parent companies or corporate investors. The company sells both direct and through dealers.

Manufacturing

Lakestar builds its caravans in Melbourne, Victoria, with a focus on custom manufacturing. Each van is designed in consultation with the buyer, allowing for personalised layouts, electrical systems, and off-grid configurations. The company offers three core designs — the Atrium (18ft to 20ft 6in touring caravan), the Grandiose (21ft 6in family layout), and a compact option — available on on-road, semi-off-road, or full off-road chassis. The engineering background of the founders is reflected in the attention to weight optimisation and structural design.

Market Position

Lakestar sits in the mid-range to upper-mid-range custom caravan segment. The custom-build approach sets them apart from mass-production manufacturers. The 2-year manufacturer warranty and 5-year structural warranty provide reasonable coverage. Pricing details are not widely published, as each van is quoted individually based on the buyer’s specifications.
