Centaur Products

Background

Centaur Products is a Victorian fibreglass specialist that has been producing all-composite caravans since mid-2012. The caravan division was acquired from its founder Ross Elliott, with Al D’Alberto now listed as Founder & Director of Centaur Products Australia. The company’s unique selling point is its all-fibreglass composite construction, which eliminates timber from the build and thereby removes the risk of timber rot from water exposure.

Beyond caravans, Centaur also manufactures products for government, mining, and defence customers, including police divisional van pods and Proback ute service bodies.

Ownership & Structure

Led by Al D’Alberto as Founder & Director. The company operates from a factory in Kilsyth, Victoria, serving both retail caravan customers and government/mining/defence clients. Centaur Products Australia encompasses both the caravan brand (Centaur Caravans) and the Proback ute service body brand.

Manufacturing

All manufacturing occurs in Kilsyth, Victoria. The key differentiator is all-composite fibreglass construction. Apart from a few shelves inside cupboards, there is no timber in the build to rot if exposed to water. The construction uses strong adhesive bonding rather than traditional fastener-based assembly. This approach results in genuinely lightweight caravans that buck the industry trend toward larger, heavier vans. Models include the Karavane and the FreedomPlus, plus the Karakampa range. The company also serves government, mining, and defence markets with composite products.

Market Position

Niche lightweight caravan segment. Centaur deliberately goes against the industry trend of bigger and heavier, instead emphasising small, light, and manoeuvrable. Pricing sits in the mid-range (the Karavane was noted in the mid-$50,000s). The all-composite construction appeals to buyers concerned about water damage and long-term durability. Competes conceptually with brands like Jayco (with their composite panels) but offers a more radical all-fibreglass approach.
