Background
Wirraway Motorhomes is a boutique, small-volume motorhome manufacturer based in Mildura, Victoria. Under the ownership of Rob Tonkin, the company has found a successful niche producing semi-bespoke B-class motorhomes. Rob’s background spans aviation and houseboat construction — he actually lives on a houseboat on the Murray River — giving him particular expertise in the effective use of space.
The Wirraway name and logo pay tribute to the first Australian-built military aircraft of World War II, a two-seat trainer. The No 2 Operational Training Unit that flew Wirraways was stationed in Mildura from 1942 to 1946, making the local connection personal.
Rob’s first venture into motorhomes was converting Toyota Coaster buses. He has since focused primarily on Mercedes-Benz cab chassis conversions, building the 260 Series and 280 Series models.

Privately owned and operated by Rob and Amanda Tonkin. Wirraway is a boutique operation — the antithesis of large-scale corporate manufacturing. The company is an accredited member of the Caravan Industry Association Australia.
