About Viscount Caravans
Background
Viscount is one of the most storied names in Australian caravanning. The story began in 1956 when John and Maureen Carr, newly arrived “Ten Pound Pom” immigrants from England, settled in Adelaide. John began building caravans for a local business before constructing his own. Maureen sold the second caravan at the Royal Adelaide Show, and word-of-mouth demand grew rapidly. By 1965 Viscount was the largest caravan builder in Australia, and at its peak in 1978 — shortly after acquiring rival Millard — Viscount accounted for three out of every four caravans sold in Australia.
In 2018, the Concept Group purchased the Viscount name and relaunched the brand, building new caravans in a dedicated factory in Campbellfield, Victoria.
Ownership & Structure
Currently owned by the Concept Group, which also manufactures Concept, Franklin, and Newlands branded caravans. All production is centralised in Campbellfield, Victoria. The modern Viscount is a completely new operation trading on the heritage name — there is no continuity of ownership from the original Carr family business.
Manufacturing
Built in Campbellfield, Victoria in a modern factory shared with other Concept Group brands. The current range includes the V1, V2, V3, Wild Shark, and family variants. Manufacturing emphasises technology and efficient modern processes with a focus on delivering value-oriented caravans with a comprehensive standard feature set.
Market Position
Entry-to-mid-range touring caravans positioned on value for money. The Wild Shark sits at the top of the range as a premium option. Caravan World editor John Ford noted the V2 comes “with a suite of standard features that would be the envy of everyone in a 1970s caravan park.”
