About Urban Caravans
Background
Urban Caravans was founded in 2012 by Steve Trajcevski, who drew on deep family experience in caravan manufacturing. Steve’s love for building caravans began at age 16, a passion inherited from his father Con, a manufacturing entrepreneur. In 1970, Con manufactured Opal Caravans with his brothers Jim and Nick. The family later rebranded as Regal Caravans in 1986, but the business closed during the 1989 recession.
Steve and Con subsequently founded New Age Upholstery, servicing the caravan and furniture industries. In 2012, Steve leveraged his metallurgy, upholstery, and manufacturing expertise to create Urban Caravans, specialising in TIG welded aluminium frame off-road caravans. The brand grew rapidly through word of mouth, requiring factory upgrades in both 2019 and 2021 to meet demand. Urban has since expanded into the Urban Group, which includes multiple brands and employs around 200 staff.
Ownership & Structure
Privately owned by Steve Trajcevski. Urban Caravans is part of The Urban Group, which operates seven divisions including Vivid Caravans (a composite-frame sub-brand), Urban X Campers (now available in the US market), and other related operations. The Urban Group is headquartered in Epping, Victoria.
Manufacturing
Built in Epping, Victoria. Urban’s signature construction method is TIG welded aluminium framing. Models include the Tungsten range in X-Terrain, X-Treme, and other configurations, with both semi off-road and full off-road options.
Market Position
Premium off-road segment. Urban Caravans builds off-road caravans using aluminium frames and TIG welding. Pricing reflects the aluminium construction premium. The Hinterland Caravans dealership chain is a key retail partner.
