About Trayon Campers
Background
Trayon Campers was founded in 1994, making it the most experienced Class 2 slide-on camper manufacturer in Australia with over 30 years in the business. The company was established by a team with combined trade qualifications in cabinetmaking, building, and motor vehicle manufacturing, who focused on engineering a slide-on camper that could handle the rigours of the Australian Outback.
Trayon cracked the design blueprint for a slide-on that worked “in perfect unison with the underlying vehicle.” The company is now the only slide-on camper manufacturer in Australia that builds and exports campers internationally.
Ownership & Structure
Family-owned and operated by the van der Walt family. The company is a certified member of the Family Business Association of Australia. Family members Vernon, Ziza, and Scholtz van der Walt are involved in business operations. The company maintains a direct sales model alongside authorised agents across Australia.
Manufacturing
Manufactured on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland (Kunda Park/Maroochydore area). Trayon produces Australia’s lightest Class 2 slide-on camper, starting at just 390kg. The construction emphasises the use of lightweight yet durable materials, with the camper designed to work harmoniously with the underlying ute, rather than fighting against it. All campers are Australian Made certified.
Market Position
Premium slide-on camper segment. The product appeals to 4WD touring enthusiasts who want maximum go-anywhere capability with minimal setup time. Pricing reflects the premium positioning and the specialised engineering involved.
