About Suncamper Motorhomes

Background

Suncamper commenced operations in 1977 in Balgowlah, NSW. In 1989, the business was purchased by Keith Harrison and moved to Mount Kuring-gai, later relocating to its current location in Thornleigh, Sydney. On 1 April 1990, Harrison began building Suncamper Pop Top Campervans on Toyota Hi-Ace vehicles. The first Sherwood model was built at that time and remains their number one seller today.

The company started as a two-man operation fitting pop-tops to vans and has progressed over 40+ years to manufacturing full motorhomes and campervans. Suncamper is 100% Australian owned and operated. Notably, Dick Smith is among their high-profile customers, having purchased a Sherwood E-Series 4x4.

Ownership & Structure

Suncamper was originally founded in 1977, then purchased by Keith Harrison in 1989. Keith has since retired to Penang, Malaysia, where he started Sunshine RV. Cameron Harrison, raised in the business, now owns and operates Suncamper Motorhomes. The company remains a family business across generations.

Manufacturing

All Suncamper motorhomes are built at their facility in Thornleigh, Sydney (northern suburbs). The company manufactures on various base vehicles and specialises in both pop-top campervans and coach-built motorhomes. The Sherwood is their flagship model, available in various configurations including the E-Series 4x4 for off-road capability.

Market Position

Suncamper sits in the mid-to-premium segment of the Australian motorhome market. Their 40+ year heritage and Australian-made credentials give them strong positioning. The company’s long history makes it one of Australia’s oldest RV manufacturers.
