About Snowy River Caravans
Background
Snowy River Caravans was born when Chinese-owned Zhejiang Daide Longcui Automobile Co., Ltd. (Daide Auto / Longtree), a subsidiary of New Gonow Group, acquired Melbourne-based Regent Caravans in 2015. The new owners secured the services of Regent’s in-house knowledge base and developed the Snowy River brand specifically for Australian conditions. The first Snowy River caravan was sold to the public in April 2016.
Since then, Snowy River has become one of Australia’s fastest-growing caravan brands, with output exceeding 3,500 vans annually and a workforce of over 240 staff. The brand won the Caravan of the Year Best Value for Money award from 2019 through 2022. The company holds both RV Master and RVMAP accreditation.
In 2024, Snowy River dropped the Regent name from its branding, consolidating under the Snowy River identity while expanding its model range.
Ownership & Structure
Snowy River Caravans is owned by Zhejiang Daide Longcui Automobile Co., Ltd. (Daide Auto), a Chinese automotive manufacturing group and subsidiary of New Gonow Group. This makes Snowy River one of the few major Australian caravan brands under foreign ownership. The Regent Caravans brand (established 1991 in Melbourne) is a sister brand under the same ownership.
Manufacturing
Snowy River uses a hybrid import/manufacturing model. The caravan bodies are constructed in China and shipped on their chassis to Snowy River’s facility in Somerton, Victoria. At the Somerton facility, appliances are installed, suspension is fitted, electrical wiring is completed to CE certification, and water supply is finalised to Australian Watermark standards. This approach allows competitive pricing while maintaining local finishing and quality control.
Market Position
Snowy River is positioned squarely in the value-for-money segment of the market. They compete most directly with other high-volume brands like Jayco, Coromal, and Jurgens. The range includes on-road touring vans and semi off-road models in various lengths. Annual production of 3,500+ units makes them one of Australia’s largest caravan producers by volume.
