About New Age Caravans
Background
New Age Caravans started life in 2004 as New Age Frames and Designs, initially providing high-profile caravan manufacturers with a higher standard of structural framing and CNC-fabricated componentry. In 2008, the company pivoted from supplier to manufacturer, launching its own caravan brand. Starting with just 5 caravans per week in 2009, they grew to produce over 2,000 per year.
New Age is credited with revolutionising the Australian caravan industry by abandoning the traditional wooden and rustic interiors in favour of modern, apartment-style designs. This innovation attracted a new demographic of caravan buyers and forced competitors to modernise their offerings.
Ownership & Structure
New Age has undergone significant ownership changes. Walkinshaw Automotive Group (known for its motorsport pedigree) first took a partial stake in 2016, then fully acquired the company in late 2018. Transferring 30+ years of automotive engineering expertise to caravan manufacturing proved slower than expected. In 2024, Melbourne’s JB Caravans took a 50% equity stake, and subsequently took full control. The combined JB/New Age group produces approximately 3,000 RVs per year, making them one of Australia’s largest manufacturers (though still less than half of Jayco’s output). Both brands continue operating with separate manufacturing facilities and dealer networks. New Age also now builds Coromal caravans and has launched its first motorhome.
Manufacturing
New Age caravans are manufactured at their factory on Taryn Drive in Epping, Victoria, with the head office on nearby Shirley Way. The facility is less than 10 minutes’ drive from JB’s Campbellfield factory. The MY24 range (Manta Ray and Road Owl) represents the company starting to hit its targets after the Walkinshaw transition. The company holds Australian Made accreditation.
Market Position
New Age sits in the mid-range segment with a broad product lineup spanning couples tourers through to family off-road vans and toy haulers. Key models include the Manta Ray (touring), Road Owl (off-road), Big Red (off-road), and Commando (heavy-duty off-road). They have a dealer network of 21+ dealerships nationally plus New Zealand presence. Their modern interior design approach continues to differentiate them in the market.
