About Golf Caravans

Background

Golf Caravans was established by Hugh Isermann, who introduced European caravan design trends into Australia. The Golf name dates back to the 1960s-1970s, making it one of Australia’s longer-running caravan brands with over 50 years of history. Under the direction of Hugh and Lyn Isermann, Golf’s range expanded to include models for every type of caravanner, from pop-tops and hardtops to full-height tourers and off-road models.

Golf was originally a Queensland-based builder known for rugged off-roaders before evolving into a brand offering a comprehensive range across multiple categories including pop-top caravans, hardtop caravans, camper trailers, and motorhomes.

Ownership & Structure

Golf Caravans is now built by Avan in Pakenham, Victoria. The Avan brand was founded by Jeff and Marian approximately 30 years ago and was bought out in 2009. Golf is manufactured alongside Avan at the same facility, with the two brands sharing manufacturing infrastructure. The Golf Super Centre operates as the retail arm for the brand. The transition to Avan ownership means Golf models benefit from Avan’s manufacturing processes but also share some of the same strengths and weaknesses.

Manufacturing

Golf caravans are currently manufactured at Avan’s facility in Pakenham, Victoria. The vans are designed and built in Australia for Australian conditions. The manufacturing process is shared with the Avan brand, which means reviews and quality discussions about Golf and Avan often overlap.

Market Position

Golf occupies the budget-to-mid-range segment of the caravan market. They offer an unusually broad product range spanning pop-tops, hardtops, camper trailers, and motorhomes, which is uncommon for a single brand. Key model lines include the Savannah (touring), Bush Challenger (off-road), Suncruiser, Linwood GTX, and Grand Tourer.
