About Cub Campers

Background

Cub Campers was founded in 1968 by John Kelso (JK) Fagan, who bought a small block of flats with an adjoining box trailer business in Lakemba in Sydney’s south-west. His son Roger soon joined the business, overseeing the Sydney-based manufacturing of box trailers, horse floats, and camper trailers. The company initially manufactured horse floats sold to buyers in Western Queensland, where rugged roads with heavy corrugations demanded strengthened chassis and suspension. This tough-road engineering was then adapted for camper trailers, forming the DNA of the Cub brand.

In the 1990s, Roger Fagan invented the ezy-wind system that revolutionised camper trailer setup, making it quicker and easier than ever before. He also developed the first deep-sided “Spacevan” (now the Longreach), giving Australians the ability to venture off the beaten track with caravan comforts without the bulk. The brand continued through the 1980s downturn, when Australian RV production fell from 35,000 units to 6,000.

In recent years, Cub has expanded from its camper trailer roots into hybrid caravans, winning multiple awards. The H16 hybrid was the Equal Overall Winner of Australia’s Best Hybrids 2024, winning Best Build Quality and Best Couples Hybrid. The F14 won Best Hybrid at Caravan of the Year 2025. All products are designed and manufactured in Australia using 100% Australian BlueScope steel.

Ownership & Structure

Cub Campers remains a family-owned business, now in its third generation. Roger Fagan’s son Shane, who worked his way up from an apprenticeship on the factory floor, is the current Managing Director. The brand has never left the Fagan family since its founding in 1968, making it one of the longest continuously family-owned camper trailer brands in Australia.

Manufacturing

All Cub products are designed and manufactured in Australia. The company uses 100% Australian BlueScope steel in its construction. Their engineering heritage from building horse floats for harsh outback conditions carries through to their current products, with strengthened chassis and suspension systems designed for Australian conditions.

Market Position

Cub sits in the mid-to-premium segment of the camper trailer and hybrid caravan market. Cub is the longest-running camper trailer brand in Australia. Cub expanded into hybrid caravans from 2023.
