About Conqueror Off Road Campers

Background

Conqueror was founded in 1991 in South Africa by brothers Philip and Thinus de Vries, who originally designed and manufactured premium military trailers for the South African Defence Force (SADF). Five years later they unveiled the Conqueror Safari civilian camper at the Nampo exhibition in Bothaville, Free State. Over 30 years, Conqueror has grown into one of the oldest and largest off-road trailer and caravan manufacturers in South Africa.

The brand entered the Australian market over 10 years ago, with the UEV (Urban Escape Vehicle) range quickly gaining recognition. Conqueror has won Caravan of the Year and Off-Road Trailer of the Year awards in both South Africa and Australia.

Ownership & Structure

The Australian distribution is handled by Conqueror Off Road Australia, which is part of the Gas Automotive Group, a family-owned enterprise that operates 4x4 superstores, automotive dealerships, and camping stores. The Gas Automotive Group team were UEV-490 customers before becoming official distributors. The Australian operation is based in Banyo, Queensland (Brisbane area) with additional dealer locations in Melbourne, Perth, and Gold Coast. An Independent Conqueror Australia Group exists on Facebook alongside the official channels.

Note: Conqueror Off Road Australia (conqueroroffroad.com.au) is the official and authorised distributor, distinct from Conqueror Australia (conqueroraustralia.com.au) which is a separate entity. There also exists a sub-brand, Hinterland Caravans by Conqueror Offroad.

Manufacturing

All Conqueror products are manufactured in South Africa, not Australia. The Australian range of UEVs (Urban Escape Vehicles) includes the UEV-440, UEV-490, UEV-14, and UEV-600. The military heritage influences the construction approach with emphasis on extreme durability and off-road capability. The designs are proven across global markets including North America, Europe, and Africa.

Market Position

Premium off-road camper trailer segment with strong overlanding/expedition credentials. The South African manufacturing origin and military heritage are key brand differentiators. Pricing reflects the premium positioning.
